    • Do they operate under the guidance of IRATA or SPRAT safety and operating procedures?

    • Does the company employ certified personnel?

    • Is the equipment selection appropriate for the task and in good working condition?

    • Do they have inspection records for the equipment used on the job site?

    • Is there a certified Level 3 Rope Access Technician (journeyman equivalent) part of the team?

  • A rescue scenario is a very stressful situation where training and competencies will be needed the most. If you are a rescue technician, when was the last time you practiced your skills? If you are hiring a rescue team, are you certain they can perform the rescue? 

    Factors to Consider:

    • Do they have the appropriate training for the potential rescue scenario?

    • When was the last time they practiced a rescue?

    • Is the equipment suitable for the potential rescue?

    • Has communication and coordination been established within the team?

  • The list can be pretty long, but here are a few major ones to consider

    • How do you assess the health and safety needs of your project? 

    • How do you select the best access method to ensure safety, productivity and worker craftsmanship are accounted for?

    • How do you deem your supervisor competent? 

    • Is your rescue plan reflecting everything that could happen and are you updating it as things change?

    • Do your employees know how to complete all the paperwork needed for the work tasks?

    • What could go wrong, and has it been identified in a risk assessment to ensure the proper controls are in place?
